US Closely Guards Performance Goals for New AIM-260 Missile
AIM-260 Missile: Extended Range and Enhanced Capabilities
Expected Range to Exceed Predecessors
The United States has been secretive about the specific performance goals for the AIM-260 missile, which is currently in development. However, sources familiar with the program have indicated that the missile is expected to have a significantly extended range compared to its predecessors.
The AIM-260 is reportedly designed to replace the AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM), which has been a staple in the US Air Force's arsenal for decades. While the exact range of the AIM-260 is classified, it is believed to exceed the AMRAAM's range of approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles).
This extended range will provide US fighter aircraft with a significant advantage in air-to-air combat, allowing them to engage targets from greater distances.
